About Wendy Smith
The Smith laboratory uses insect models to study the regulation of growth and immune function. Recent work focuses on mechanisms underlying enhanced immune responsiveness of offspring following parental exposure to pathogens. We combine developmental, physiological, transcriptomic, and epigenetic approaches to understand pathogen-induced maternal effects across generations. Identification of conserved mechanisms for such effects may help us to manipulate pathogen resistance in groups ranging from insects to humans.
