About Jesse Peltier

Dr. Jesse Peltier is an assistant professor of chemistry and chemical biology and an affiliate faculty member in chemical engineering. He was awarded the AISES Most Promising Scientist award for 2024. The Peltier Group blends organic, inorganic, and materials chemistry to fabricate novel materials that address challenges in catalysis, energy, and sustainability. We aim to establish a bottom-up approach to materials chemistry, where harnessing the electronic properties and reactivity of molecular species will lead to designer porous materials. We also create new main-group species by manipulating electronic structure to unlock unique reactivity and properties.

Prior to joining Northeastern University, Jesse obtained his A.B. from Dartmouth College, where he double-majored in chemistry and Native American Studies. He then transitioned to the University of California, San Diego, where he earned his Ph.D. in the group of Prof. Guy Bertrand as an NSF Graduate Research Fellow. He studied the use of singlet carbenes to advance the frontiers of nanoclusters, catalysis, and luminescent complexes. He also investigated air-stable radicals at the Université Grenoble Alpes in France. His work was recognized when he was awarded the UCSD Chancellor’s Dissertation Medal for the physical sciences. Afterward, he became a President’s and Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow, working with Prof. Jeffrey Long at UC Berkeley, where he investigated metal–organic frameworks for gas separations.
