What causes dyslexia?

Dyslexia affects about 10 percent of the population, and its cause — or at least the discussion around the cause — is causing a scientific fight.

Science recently published an article about a Belgian research team that “argues that the core of the disorder lies not in faulty mental representations of words, as has been argued for decades, but in the brain’s ability to access that information.”

Psychology professor Iris Berent took issue with the manner in which the team did the testing.
