Rocket Competition

On Friday, May 17th, students from Northeastern’s chapter of Society of Physics Students (SPS) went up to Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH for a rocket launch competition, organized by NU Physics and Dartmouth Faculty. The Northeastern students met with Dartmouth’s engineering students studying fluid mechanics that morning with a lecture by NU Prof. Batishchev on Rockets, followed by practical rocketry. Northeastern’s students assisted in the construction of one of the rockets before heading out to Dartmouth rugby field to launch. After a few failed launches, rogue rockets, and trees climbed, Northeastern’s team ended with the highest launch from any retrievable rocket. The SPS students also toured the historical campus and enjoyed the beautiful scenery. They hope that this trip will lead to the creation of Northeastern’s Rocket Club to further promote Science and Engineering at NU.
