The Clinical and Translational Science Institute (CTSI), which partners Tufts University Medical Center with Northeastern, Brandeis and a number of clinical affiliates, has been named a recipient of a Clinical and Translational Science Award from the National Institutes of Health. The award will provide more than $24 million in federal funding to support the Institute’s work over the next five years. The CTSI is designed to accelerate the translation of basic laboratory research into clinical use, medical practice and health policy. Professor Graham Jones, Department Chair of Chemistry and Chemical Biology has been appointed Associate Director of Research for the CTSI and will oversee the ‘T1’ research program (also known as bench-to bedside research) for the consortium. Some of the research being conducted with colleagues in the Department of  Chemistry & Chemical Biology includes clinical proteomics, medical diagnostics, and the development of experimental therapeutics for early stage clinical trials. Jones commented ‘Northeastern’s focus on use-inspired research makes us an ideal partner for such an endeavor’. The grant is one of the largest awarded, and will fund training programs, core laboratories, and ‘pilot’ research funding to teams of investigators.
