BNS students meet with MacArthur “Genius” Beth Stevens

Before Northeastern alumna, Beth Stevens, a neuroscientist and 2016 MacArthur “genius” grant recipient, joined President Aoun for “Brain Power“, she met with small group of Behavioral Neuroscience students.

Beth Stevens answered questions about her groundbreaking research on the role of microglia for pruning of synaptic contacts during brain development, reminisced about her former Northeastern coops, and gave career advising.  According to BNS senior, Olivia Van Benschoten, “Beth spoke fondly of her time as an undergraduate, but made special note of the role mentors played in her career and the necessity of collaboration amongst researchers. Her career testifies to the fact that discovery cannot occur in a a vacuum and that we are all better scientists for listening to and helping our own.”
