Christopher King studied Mathematics and Physics as an undergraduate at Trinity College Dublin, before receiving his PhD in Physics at Harvard University in 1984. After positions as a lecturer at Princeton University and as H.C. Wang Assistant Professor at Cornell University, Professor King joined the Mathematics faculty at Northeastern in 1991. His research spans many aspects of mathematical physics and applied mathematics, with recent focus on quantum information theory and on distributed resource allocation algorithms. Professor King served as Chair of the Mathematics Department from 2013 to 2017, and as a faculty Senator during the same period. Professor King is a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society, and holds a joint (courtesy) appointment in the Department of Physics.
