Derek Isaacowitz

Psychology professor named editor-in-chief of psychological sciences journal

The Gerontological Society of America (GSA) has named Northeastern Psychology Professor Derek Isaacowitz as the editor-in-chief of The Journal of Gerontology, Series B: Psychological Sciences and Social Sciences. The journal’s psychological sciences section focuses on research about adulthood development and its impact on the psychological science of aging processes.

Professor Isaacowitz studies human ability to regulate emotional experiences, how that changes with age, and how older adults recognize emotions in others. As the PI of the Lifespan Emotional Development Lab (LEDlab) at Northeastern University, Isaacowitz has taken many approaches to tracking emotional development through age with things like eye tracking and behavioral assessments.

“This is such an exciting time for the psychological study of aging and gerontology, with new methods being developed and cutting-edge research being conducted on important basic and applied questions,” Isaacowitz told the journal. “I am extremely honored to have been selected as the next editor of this prestigious and important journal, and look forward to helping highlight the critical work being done in this research area.”
