The Fields Medal recognizes outstanding mathematical achievement for existing work and for the promise of future achievement. A candidate’s 40th birthday must not occur before January 1st of the year of the Congress at which the Fields Medals are awarded.

The 2014 Fields Medalists are Artur Avila (Centre national de la recherche scientifique, France), Manjul Bhargava (Princeton University), Martin Hairer (the University of Warwick, UK), and Maryam Mirzakhani (Stanford University). The medals will be presented at the 2014 International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) in Seoul, Korea.
