Awards and Recognition
The College of Science faculty are a talented group of scientists and educators whose teaching and research builds the Good Power of Science, trains the next generation of science professionals, and solves crucial research challenges.
AAAS Fellows
American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Fellows are a distinguished cadre of scientists, engineers, and innovators who have been recognized for their achievements across disciplines.
-
Albert-László Barabási
Dodge Professor, University Distinguished Professor, Physics
Dr. Barabási’s research focuses on how networks emerge, what they look like, and how they evolve; and how networks impact on understanding of complex systems. -
Lisa Feldman Barrett
University Distinguished Professor, Psychology
Dr. Barrett is developing a systems-level model of brain and body mechanisms to unify human affect, emotion, motivation, cognition and action. -
Penny Beuning
Chair and Professor, Chemistry and Chemical Biology
Dr. Beuning’s research aims to determine how cells respond to DNA damage and maintain the accuracy of genetic information. -
Paul Champion
Professor, Physics
Dr. Champion’s research lies in experimental biophysics with a focus on quantum biology, proton tunneling, ultrafast protein dynamics and coherence. -
Randall Hughes
Professor, Marine and Environmental Sciences
Dr. Hughes’s research focuses on understanding the ecological and social causes and consequences of biodiversity change, and applying that knowledge to the conservation and restoration of marine systems. -
Kim Lewis
University Distinguished Professor, Biology
Dr. Lewis studies persister cells responsible for tolerance to antibiotics, uncultured bacteria of the environment and the microbiome, and works on drug discovery. -
Pran Nath
Matthews Distinguished University Professor, Physics
Dr. Nath’s research focuses on the building blocks of the universe – fundamental particles, such as electrons, quarks, and leptons, and the forces between them. -
Hazel Sive
Professor, Biology
Dr. Sive’s research focuses on neurodevelopmental disorders, as well as fundamental processes underlying brain and craniofacial development. -
Eugene Smotkin
Professor, Chemistry and Chemical Biology
Dr. Smotkin’s work focuses on the development of catalysts and supports for electrochemical reactors for synthesis, power generation and environmental remediation. -
Geoffrey Trussell
Chair and Doherty Professor, Marine and Environmental Sciences
Director, Marine Science Center and Coastal Sustainability Institute
Dr. Trussell’s research is in evolutionary, community and ecosystem ecology, including rocky intertidal shores, old fields, and freshwater amphibian communities. -
Alessandro Vespignani
Sternberg Family Distinguished Professor, Physics
Director, Network Science Institute
Dr. Vespignani research is focused on the study of “techno-social” systems, where infrastructures composed of different technological layers are interoperating within the social component that drives their use and development.
