"For Northeastern, this is the start of a longer-term relationship with GSK. It's a really great experience for a lot of the people in the program to be able to get out and do other things, and it's pretty great that Northeastern has this infrastructure in place to allow people to do this," he said.

Northeastern alumnus Dr. Joe Krackeler has kept busy since receiving his PhD in polymer chemistry in 1967. From consulting in polymers and molding materials throughout the Silicon Valley, to owning a cheesecake company, to being on the championship Team USA Hockey Team over 80 – he has done it all.  

"This club is for anyone in biology, psychology, behavioral neuroscience, criminal justice, or any major if you're interested in aspects of forensic science and other parts of criminology that aren't offered at Northeastern," said Talemal. "And it's also for people who are just interested in watching and talking about some great criminal television."

Cephalopods—which include octopuses, squid, and cuttlefish—are masters of disguise. They can camouflage to precisely match their surroundings in a matter of seconds, and no scientist has quite been able to replicate the spectacle. But new research by Leila Deravi, Assistant Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Northeastern, brings us a step closer.

Northeastern has partnered with global pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline to launch a first-of-its-kind, joint experiential PhD program. Employees of GSK who enroll in the program will conduct pharmaceutical research projects co-developed by the company and Northeastern, and GSK will cover the tuition costs of the program as well as all the research expenses.
