NU Researchers Contribute Expertise to Resilience Handbook

MSC PhD student Ashley Cryan, advised by Faculty Brian Helmuth and Steven Scyphers, have recently contributed a chapter to the new book Handbook on Resilience of Socio-Technical Systems. In their chapter, Ecological Design for Urban Coastal Resilience, Cryan and co-authors draw from a long history of ecological literature exploring drivers of resilience and resistance in natural ecosystems, to identify opportunities for urban development to embrace socio-technical and ecological resilience in the coastal landscape through innovative shoreline design that protects both coastal development and marine habitats. Disseminating these types of resources related to coastal resilience is increasingly important as managers and planners help their coastal communities prepare for climate change.
