Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Advancement in the Marine Sciences Internship

The Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Advancement in the Marine Sciences (IDEA) Internship will connect students at 2-yr and 4-yr colleges in the Boston Metro and North Shore with paid research opportunities at Northeastern University’s Marine Science Center.

About the Program

The application period has now closed – please stay tuned for updates about our 2022 IDEA cohort!

In summer 2022, the Northeastern University Marine Science Center will host 5 students from 2-yr and 4-yr colleges for 8-week, paid, cohort-based research internships at the Center. Each student will be paired with a research lab at the Marine Science Center to complete research projects around a common theme of urbanization and ecosystem changes in salt marsh communities. Learn more about research labs at the Center on our website, here.

In addition to planning, conducting, and presenting research, students will attend workshops and seminars at the Marine Science Center to learn more about emerging research and career pathways in the field. We will also connect students to research partners, faculty, and graduate students working at the Center, to provide increased opportunities for mentorship and collaboration. Internship participants will also work with the Center’s Outreach Program Team to develop their science communication skills, and will have an opportunity to contribute to ongoing communication and outreach efforts.
