The College of Science is committed to your academic success, and our advisors are here to help. From general course selection and questions regarding registration to planning co-ops and Study Abroad experiences, advisors help you build a plan that works for you and your future.

Academic Advising

Professional advisors in the College of Science are available to provide support, advice, and referral services for all student issues and concerns, including course studies, co-op planning, and more! Students are urged to connect with advisors on a regular basis, we look forward to hearing from you!

Tutoring

COS Tutoring Center

The COS Tutoring Program offers drop-in academic support for certain courses within the College. The Center is staffed by undergraduate students who’ve taken these courses previously and hold drop-in tutoring hours to assist students with challenging course content.

  • Location: 101 Hayden Hall, Rooms 101B and 101C
  • Hours: Monday-Thursday, 4:30-7:00 p.m.

Peer Tutoring

Northeastern’s Peer Tutoring Program offers free peer tutoring services to undergraduate students actively enrolled in courses. Students can book one-on-one or small group tutoring appointments via their Student Hub.

Students who need additional support can contact the Peer Tutoring Program during business hours (Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.).

Department Tutoring

Chemistry

Chem Central offers walk-in tutoring services by graduate students for assistance in chemistry.

TA walk-in hours are posted at EXP 301.

Physics

The Physics Workshop is a free tutoring service run by physics graduate students to assist students with any physics-related challenges, such as homework, lecture material, lab preparations, and more.

Additional tutoring may be offered by individual departments. Check in with your department’s main office for more information.

Writing Center

The Writing Center is a free service to help writers at any level, and from any academic discipline, in their written and visual communication.

Writing Center tutors are experience graduate students and teachers who work with students on any aspect of the writing process on items such as class papers, discussion posts, resumés, application essays and personal statements, long-term writing projects like theses and dissertations, and more.

Change of Major

Get information on all types of major change requests with the College of Science including declaring a new single major, declaring a combined major, adding a second major, and changing your home college (for combined majors that can be housed in either college).

Declaring a Science Minor

Available science minors include Astrophysics, Behavioral Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Biology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Environmental Chemistry, Environmental and Sustainability Sciences, Environmental Studies, Geosciences, Linguistics, Marine Sciences, Mathematics, Network Science, Physics, Psychology, Scientific Commercialization, and Science Writing.

PreMed and PreHealth Track

The Northeastern PreMed and PreHealth Advising Program provides individualized advising resources to undergraduate students from all disciplines on their pathway to medical school, dental school, physician assistant school, podiatry school, optometry school, and veterinary school.

PlusOne Accelerated Master's Degrees

The PlusOne program allows current Northeastern students the opportunity to pursue both a bachelor’s and master’s degree successively in a condensed period of time.
