Dr. Gail S. Begley is a Teaching Professor and Director of Undergraduate Studies in Biology. She earned a PhD in Cell & Molecular Biology at Boston University and was a Research Fellow at the University of Oxford Institute of Molecular Medicine and at Harvard Medical School. Before taking a faculty position at Northeastern, she was a Staff Scientist at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole. Dr. Begley has been recognized with the Excellence in Teaching award at Northeastern University and been named a Biology Scholar by the American Society for Microbiology. In addition to biological research, Dr. Begley has presented and published on curriculum reform, faculty development, Service-Learning, and other high impact teaching practices.

Service-Learning in Biology inspires curiosity in science for students of all ages

The service-learning class Inquiries in Biological Sciences offered a class of first-year students the opportunity to expand their knowledge in biology by focusing on the microbiome, while also giving them the opportunity to visit many partner locations to teach children and adults the fundamentals of biology.
