About Virginie Sjoelund
Dr. Sjoelund joined the Facility in August 2022 as the Associate Director. She has been actively involved in proteomics research for the past 15 years. Her research interests are in immunology, biomarker discovery, and interactomics. Dr. Sjoelund is responsible for designing and helping with the interpretation of proteomics and small molecule experiments by consulting with investigators. She and her team can help with mass spectrometry-related support needed by researchers to advance their research, including the preparation of manuscripts and grant applications.
Prior to joining Northeastern University, Dr. Sjoelund was the director of the proteomics facility at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center where she also was an assistant professor in the cell biology department.
Dr. Sjoelund obtained a chemical engineering degree from the Ecole Nationale Superieure de Chimie Montpellier (ENSCM) in Montpellier France in 2001 followed by a master’s degree from the University of Louisville, KY. In 2009, she graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a PhD in molecular and cellular biology. She then joined the NIH (NIAID) laboratory of Immune System Biology as a post-doc until 2014 where she moved to OK as a staff scientist in the proteomics core facility.
The Mass Spectrometry Facility is a 2,200 sq. ft laboratory space that houses state-of-the-art liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry instrumentation. The lab is operated as a “fee-for-service” resource for Northeastern University and external research investigators. The Facility provides support for mass spectrometry-based molecular profiling applications, including proteomics single cell proteomics, small molecule characterization and quantification.
