Sudhakaran Prabakaran

Dr. Sudhakaran Prabakaran, Associate Teaching Professor at Northeastern University, brings expertise in biotechnology innovation, computational modeling, and AI-driven drug discovery. With a Ph.D. in Systems Neuroscience from the University of Cambridge and postdoctoral work in Systems Biology at Harvard University, he bridges biological research and cutting-edge technologies. Previously, Dr. Prabakaran was an Assistant Professor in Genetics at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow and Tutor at St. Edmund’s College, Cambridge. This experience enriches his current work at Northeastern. His research applies machine learning and AI to drug discovery, explores the “dark genome” for novel therapeutics, and investigates novel open reading frames (nORFs) in diseases. As CEO of NonExomics, Inc., he leads AI-driven drug discovery initiatives, increasing successful drug candidates by 30% and filing multiple patents.

At Northeastern, Dr. Prabakaran teaches courses like biotechnology innovation leadership, biostatistics, and biotech enterprise, emphasizing practical applications and preparing students for industry leadership. Dr. Prabakaran’s research appears in high-impact journals and prominent media. Current projects include AI algorithms for drug efficacy prediction, nORF studies in psychiatric disorders, and a “dark proteome” database.
