Arshag Hajian passed away in June 2026.

Professor Hajian was born in Egypt in 1930 and was educated at Pennsylvania State University, the University of Chicago, and Yale University. He joined Northeastern University as an Associate Professor of Mathematics in 1964 and was promoted to Professor in 1967, serving on our faculty for 48 years before retiring in 2015.  

Professor Hajian was well known both for his work in Ergodic Theory and for his support of mathematics in Armenia. On his 85th birthday, the Armenian Journal of Mathematics dedicated a special issue to him, which is available online for those who wish to read it.
