An important job for scientists is explaining their work to a general audience, but this is no easy feat in a society where the average citizen knows very little about scientific concepts. Equipping scientists with the tools to effectively communicate their work to diverse audiences was the goal of a conference hosted by Northeastern.

Local teens get hands-on learning at marine Science Center
Northeastern’s Marine Science Center kicked off its outreach field season on Tuesday by hosting teenagers from a school in Lynn, Massachusetts, who spent the morning exploring marine life along the center’s rocky shores, learning about biodiversity at the center’s touch tanks, and engaging with researchers studying everything from salt marshes to the physiology and health of corals.

Students plunge into marine science at the High School Marine Science Symposia
Over 500 students and teachers participated in a day of hands-on marine science workshops and lectures earlier this month, at two High School Marine Science Symposia, hosted by the NUMSC and the Massachusetts Marine Educators.
