Dr. Gail S Begley is a Teaching Professor in Biology, Director of the University PreHealth Program, and Co-chair of the University Service-Learning Advisory Board. Dr. Begley earned a PhD in Cell & Molecular Biology at Boston University and was a Research Fellow at the University of Oxford and at Harvard Medical School. Before taking a faculty position at Northeastern, she was a Staff Scientist at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole. Dr. Begley has been recognized with the Excellence in Teaching award at Northeastern and been named a Biology Scholar by the American Society for Microbiology. In addition to her biological research, Dr. Begley has written on curriculum reform and implementing Service-Learning in the Biology classroom.

The service-learning class Inquiries in Biological Sciences offered a class of first-year students the opportunity to expand their knowledge in biology by focusing on the microbiome, while also giving them the opportunity to visit many partner locations to teach children and adults the fundamentals of biology.
