Apfeld Laboratory
Our lab studies how the brain regulates aging and resilience at the cellular, tissue, and whole-organism levels in the nematode C. elegans. We use new enabling technologies, including live imaging of protein oxidation and automated lifespan measurement. Our work is interdisciplinary, combining molecular genetics, quantitative microscopy, mathematical modeling, and engineering. We aim to uncover fundamental principles governing aging, which could lead to new therapies for aging-related human diseases.
