Congratulations on your admission to the College of Science! Here you’ll find helpful information on getting started, including instructions on how to access your Northeastern student account.

Setting up your Online Account

Northeastern Account and Student Hub

Visit the Student Hub to access to all things Northeastern, including your student email account. It is imperative that you check this email frequently. To access the Student Hub, you will first need to set up your Northeastern account:

Graduate Student Support Site

As a graduate student in the College of Science, you have access to the College of Science Graduate Student Support site using your Northeastern credentials. The New Student Information page provides all the information necessary to get started as a Northeastern University graduate student.

The Systems Reference Guide is a resource to help students navigate the various systems often used, such as Banner, Canvas, the Student Hub, and the COS Graduate Student Support Site. The guide also gives detailed steps to assist students in course searches and registration.

The Student Resources Section contains information about college policies and procedures, academic and campus resources, and much more! We encourage you to check the COS Graduate Student Support site when questions arise, as you will find many resources that can assist you.

Please note that this site is for students in master’s degree programs and graduate certificate programs. Over the summer, PhD students will be invited to join a College of Science PhD student Canvas Course, which contains information on a wide variety of resources available to COS PhDs.

Submit a Student Financial Responsibility Agreement

You will not be able to access your Northeastern University student account without completing the Student Financial Responsibility Agreement (SFRA) — a mandatory agreement that outlines financial obligations and responsibilities for attendance at Northeastern University. All students must complete the SFRA via their Student Hub.

  • U.S. citizens and permanent residents may qualify for federal assistance or loans.

University Health Report Form

Students studying on campus in Boston and Oakland

Online students and students studying at the Roux and Toronto are not required to submit a health report form.

Elect or Waive Health Insurance

Students studying on campus in the United States

  • On-ground graduate students are automatically charged for the Northeastern University Student Health Plan (NUSHP). If you already have a comparable required insurance, you can waive the NUSHP.
  • You will not be able to perform the waiver until the insurance fee appears on your e-bill. If you miss the waiver deadline, you will be responsible for paying the health insurance bill. Please consult with UHCS if you have questions about whether or not a particular insurance is acceptable. Email [email protected] with questions.

Online students

  • You are not eligible for Northeastern University Student Health Plan (NUSHP).
  • If you enroll in a hybrid or on-ground course as an online student, you will be charged for health insurance unless you waive it.

Submit Official Transcripts and Standardized Test Scores

  • Submit a final official transcript showing degree conferral from each accredited undergraduate and graduate institution you have attended to College of Science Graduate Student Services.

Completing Biotechnology Prerequisites

Upon acceptance into the Biotechnology program, there are two prerequisites that must be fulfilled in order to complete the program.

Note, not having completed the prerequisites will will not prohibit you from beginning your graduate program. However, both prerequisites must be completed within two academic semesters of beginning the program. Please review this important information.

Parking
Student Financial Services in 354 Richards Hall issues parking permits to Northeastern students who wish to commute by car. Learn more about parking on campus.

MBTA
The MBTA offers extensive travel options through-out the greater Boston area, in including trains, trolleys, ferries, and buses. Northeastern is served by many convenient transit stops, such as Ruggles Station (via the Orange Line) and the Northeastern T-stop (via the Green Line) which serve the heart of campus. Biking
Get information on bicycle services on-campus including the Hubway Bike Sharing program, bike repair stations, registering your bike, and other available resources.

Oakland, CA

Public Transportation

Portland, ME

Parking

Guests to campus can park in the UPP parking garage within the building’s P0 level (public rate is $5/hr) or utilize nearby street parking administered by the City of Portland. The entrance to P0 is accessible from Fore Street, just after the Hancock-Fore street intersection and across from the entrance to the Residence Inn. There is a Roux Institute sign next to the entrance. Get more information on the Roux Institute’s website.

Public Transportation

Greater Portland METRO buses offer routes within Portland and to neighboring towns South Portland, Falmouth, and Westbrook. This includes destinations including the Maine Mall and the Portland Jetport, among many others.

The METRO BREEZ travels a little further than the traditional METRO bus routes, bringing you north of Portland to the towns of Yarmouth, Freeport, or Brunswick.

Amtrak’s Downeaster is a train line that runs from Brunswick, ME to Boston, MA, with stops in-between including Portland and Durham, New Hampshire. With five daily round-trips between Maine and Boston, it’s easy to hop on and head to the Boston area for travel, school, or pleasure.

Toronto, Canada

Toronto Transit Commission (TTC)

The Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) is the public transport agency that operates bus, subway, streetcar, and paratransit services in Toronto, Ontario. Find routes and schedules, service advisories, and information on fares and passes on the TTC website.
