Looking into the first billion years with JWST
JWST is giving us an unprecedented view into the early phases of galaxy formation. I will review the motivations for why a large cold infrared-optimized telescope in space has been the dream of high-redshift astronomers for 25 years and give a tour of some of the data. I’ll then describe the JWST Advanced Deep Extragalactic Survey, which is performing very deep imaging and multi-object spectroscopy in the regions in and around the Hubble Deep Field and Ultra Deep Field. I’ll finish with some of the early highlights from the survey, extending to z~13.
