The Difference between Commencement and Celebrations

  • University Graduate and Undergraduate Commencement ceremonies are the university-wide ceremonies at which President confers degrees.
  • Doctor of Philosophy, School of Law, and College of Professional Studies graduates have their names read and cross the stage at their own Commencement ceremonies.
  • Celebrations are recognitions of individual achievement where graduate names are called, and graduates cross the stage. Celebrations are hosted by the college or special interest group.
