A student works on a piece of machinery in the nanoscale biophysics lab.The Department of Physics at Northeastern University has a broad array of research programs, in both theoretical and experimental areas. In the theory area, there is strong activity in particle physics, condensed matter, materials, biological physics, and network science.  The experimental laboratories in our department are primarily focused on nanophysics, biological physics, and particle physics.  There are also several research centers, based within the Department of Physics. Our centers bring together individuals from various disciplines to focus on complex systems, network theory, and electronic materials.
