About Andreia Ionescu
Dr. Ionescu joined the faculty in the Department of Biology at Northeastern University in July 2020, after previously serving as Assistant Professor in Harvard School of Dental Medicine. In 2003, she received a PhD degree in Biochemistry and Biophysics from University of Rochester Medical School (NY), which was followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in skeletal biology at Harvard Medical School in Boston (MA). Dr. Ionescu’s research received support from the National Institute of Health, Arthritis Foundation and Arthritis National Research Foundation.
Our research centers on skeletal development and pathology with an emphasis on tissue regeneration and repair after injury. We aim to fate map how skeletal stem cells contribute to the growth of the skeletal elements during development via mouse transgenesis, lineage tracing and single cell transcriptomics. We want to understand the gene signature of the injured versus regenerating tissue with the hope of developing new therapies for skeletal repair.
