Campus in Snow

Winter Storm 2013

A massive winter storm that is forecasted to bring up to three feet of snow to the Boston area has arrived.

The snow started falling Friday morning and is not expected to taper off until Saturday afternoon, at which time the wind may still be gusting to hurricane strength causing blizzard conditions.

Boston Mayor Tom Menino has declared a snow emergency, and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick has declared a state of emergency.

The university cancelled classes Friday and is closed both Friday and Saturday. In addition, the Welcome Day for admitted students that was scheduled for Saturday has been cancelled.

Students and families who were anticipating visiting the university on Saturday are invited to attend the next Welcome Day on April 13. In addition, there is a COS Day on February 22 to which this group is invited.

The university is posting announcements regarding dining halls, the library, and athletic events on its website.

If you can safely take photos and videos of what the storm looks like to you, we’d love to see them and share them with our College of Science communities on our Facebook page, Twitter account, and Flickr account.

You can send pictures and videos to Kara Sassone, College of Science web producer/social media specialist at [email protected].
