Visiting Research Professor Oleg Batishchev Awarded $800,000 Grant from US Department of Defense

Congratulations to Visiting Research Professor Oleg Batishchev who has been awarded an $800,000 grant by the US Department of Defense to simulate space and ionospheric plasmas.  The grant will allow for the purchase of state-of-the-art lab equipment and a variety of instrumentation, including a GPU-based high performance computer to facilitate 6-dimensional kinetic simulations. The goal is to provide experimental verification for on-going studies involving multi-scale modeling of plasma-structure interactions.  The new space plasma simulation facility will expand plasma physics research and computer modeling of complex systems. It will also provide training in experimental and computational physics to Northeastern students and postdocs.
