Student realizes the influence he can have on patients on recent Co-op

Michael Mitchell_Co-op StudentPsychology major Michael Mitchell’s recent co-op experience at Arbour Hospital as a Mental Health Associate, taught him the value of working with patients. This hands-on experience offered him the opportunity to realize the level of direct positive influence he was able to have on so many people. By testing his de-escalation skills and helping to ground patients who were having a rough time, he realized that being empathetic with patients was the baseline for any therapeutic relationship. Through his day-to-day tasks on his co-op, he gained a valuable real world perspective of the structure of mental health care.
