First year students in Professor Begley’s Inquiries in Biology class have been engaged in Service-Learning throughout the fall semester and recently showcased their work at the university-wide Service-Learning Expo.

The students partnered with:

Citizen Schools to create and deliver an after-school apprenticeship on microbes at Orchard Gardens Middle School in Roxbury

Science Club for Girls to develop a new module on genetics and genome editing to be used in clubs in Boston and surrounding communities

United South End Settlements to create and lead engaging, hands-on biology activities for elementary and middle school children at a local community center

Mujeres Unidas Avanzando to assist low-income Spanish-speaking women by
Developing biology learning materials in Spanish & English for the high school equivalency exam
Creating and presenting health workshops in Spanish and English, at MUA in Dorchester and on-line and
Developing and leading a biology laboratory workshop at NU in Spanish and English
