Psychology student teaches sustainable gardening

Meet Joli Assumma, Psychology 2019:

“For my co-op I am working to build and maintain edible gardens in schools, townships, and homes throughout Cape Town. My main focus for this co-op is to work with the children in these schools so they can learn how to plant, harvest, and take care of their school’s gardens on their own. Many of the schools that we work in are in places where children may not have access to fresh vegetables at home, so it really does make a difference to see a child plant, harvest, and have their own food that they’ve incorporated into their everyday lunches. Working in the classroom with the kids is really an added bonus to garden work, and it has been great for my major focus in developmental psychology in children.”
