Terence Gaffney

Project-Connections-Singularities-Brasil

Professor Terence Gaffney has been appointed by the Brazilian government as a Visiting Researcher for three years, starting January 2015. During this period Professor Gaffney will work with over thirty Brazilian mathematicians at seven universities, tying together researchers working in different areas of singularities throughout Brazil. Professor Gaffney has already given two weeks of lectures at the UFF in Niteroi, and has worked with mathematicians at the UFC in Fortaleza, and at USP-Sao Carlos and UFScar in Sao Carlos. In addition to providing support for Professor Gaffney’s visits to Brazil, the program will also support year-long visits by graduate students from Brazilian universities to Northeastern. The first graduate students will arrive in September 2015, and will be hosted by the Mathematics Department while they work on their PhD theses with Professor Gaffney.
