Professor Arthur Kramer featured in the Huffington Post

Arthur Kramer, Senior Vice Provost for Research and Graduate Education and
Professor of Psychology & Engineering, Northeastern University

Recently, Professor Kramer published an article in the Huffington Post entitled, “Want to Reward Your Brain? Get off the Couch.” The article discusses his research into the links between physical and cognitive health. His findings show how consistent physical activity can change the brain’s structure and function, supporting improvements in cognition.

Next year, he will be participating in a large and comprehensive exercise study examining the effects of exercise on cognition based on a variety of factors. This research could help determine whether there are different effects of exercise for different people, which might allow for personalization of exercise interventions.

He says, “three hours of light to moderate aerobic exercise weekly appears to have beneficial effects on memory, attention, and decision making,” and that the brain can improve as we age.
