On May 23, 2013 the College of Science at Northeastern University hosted the Sustaining Coastal Cities conference. It was a day-long conference on the critical role and fragile state of marine ecosystems.

This is an audio recording of a panel discussion moderated by NPR Science Correspondent Richard Harris with Ove Hoegh-Guldberg, inaugural director of the Global Change Institute at the University of Queensland, an institute dedicated to providing a vehicle for collaborative research, learning, engagement and advocacy in major global change issues; Stephen Hawkins, dean of Ocean and Earth Science at the National Oceanography Centre Southampton at the University of Southampton; Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences Assistant Professor Matthew Bracken; Department of Marine and Environmental Sciences Professor Brian Helmuth; and School of Architecture Assistant Professor Daniel Adams.
