New faculty member J. Benjamin Hutchinson featured in the News@Northeastern

Recently, new faculty member Prof. J. Benjamin Hutchinson was featured in the News@Northeastern in an article entitled, “How memories shape our perception of the present”. Prof. Hutchinson joins the Psychology Department from a postdoctoral fellowship from Princeton University. His research focuses on memory and attention, how memories influence what we pay attention to in the present, and he uses functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) which looks at brain activity to its various parts. The new Interdisciplinary Science and Engineering Complex at Northeastern houses a brand new fMRI machine making it an exciting time for Hutchinson to join Northeastern and continue his research. He plans to use the data provided by fMRI to develop a comprehensive model looking at relationships in the brain to understand how different types of memory impact our attention.
