The College of Science would like to congratulate Gregory Peim and Catherine Matassa, recipients of this year’s Outstanding Graduate Student Awards.
Gregory works with Prof. Pran Nath in the Physics Department, and Catherine conducts research in Prof. Geoffrey Trussell’s lab at the Marine Science Center.
GREGORY PEIM
Gregory has been conducting research under the direction of Prof. Pran Nath since 2010. “I was interested in working on supergravity and the ability to detect such models experimentally, e.g. at the Large Hadron Collider and Dark Matter experiments,” Gregory said.
Prof. Nath said Gregory has made outstanding contributions two different areas of fundamental physics—the search for new physics at the Large Hadron Collider, and the physics of the early universe. He has published 13 papers and has been cited more than any other graduate student in recentmemory.

CATHERINE MATASSA
Under Prof. Trussell’s direction, Catherine has been examining how the risk of predatation influences prey behavior and how these interactions influence rocky intertidal communities. Prior to her PhD work,Catherine earned a master’s degree through the Three Seas Program here at Northeastern, and completed a Bachelor of Science and Arts at Carnegie Mellon University.
Congratulations to both Catherine and Gregory on the achievement! They will receive the Outstanding Graduate Student Awards during Northeastern University’s Academic Honors Convocation on April 18, 2013 at 3 p.m.
