Carlos Castillo-Chavez Visits Math Department

Carlos Castillo-Chavez, a Regents professor at Arizona State University and director of the Mathematical and Theoretical Biology Institute and the Mathematical, Computational, and Modeling Sciences Center at Arizona State University, is visiting Northeastern University on 9/22 and 9/23. He will give a talk on mathematical epidemiology in the math department’s Applied and Interdisciplinary Mathematics seminar on 9/23 at 11 AM.

In addition to his research, Dr. Castillo-Chavez is strongly committed to mentoring students from under-represented minorities at the college and graduate level to pursue PhDs in the mathematical sciences. He has supervised more than 33 PhD students, many from under-represented minorities. He is a strong advocate for increasing diversity in the mathematics faculties of American universities and the larger community of mathematics researchers.
